Leadership
Development Opportunities
At
its January retreat, the SJ JACL Board targeted Leadership Development
as a priority to ensure the chapter's health and prosperity for
future generations. To this end, a committee addressing these
issues has been hard at work identifying Leadership Development
opportunities for our general membership and youth membership
to take advantage of. Listed below are these opportunities.
Opportunities
for Adults
The
San Jose/Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce sponsors
a program entitled Community Leadership San Jose Silicon Valley.
It identifies emerging leaders in the San Jose metropolitan area
and offers them a range of exposure to issues vital to the community.
The SJ JACL will consider subsidizing the cost of participation
in this program for one chapter member who applies as a representative
of the chapter.
Student
Internships/Fellowships
Japanese
American Citizens League Program Fellowship: The
program fellow will work on a full-time basis of one year in the
JACL Midwest Office and will be assigned to tasks and responsibilities
to carry out the JACL Anti-Hate and Education Programs. (Click

Vision New America is a non-profit organization formed
to promote the civic and political participation of Asian Americans.
It invites high school and college students to apply for internship
positions within government agencies at the state, county, or
city level. SJ JACL is partnering with Vision New America to identify
young leaders from the Japanese American community to participate

The
Office of Congressman Mike Honda offers both college
and high school internship opportunities, and the chapter may
be able to assist you with your application process. (Click here

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission
(MTC) is searching for high school students in Santa
Clara County interested in possible careers in Transportation
and urban planning-related careers. (Click here

JACL Masaoka Fellowships offers
the Fund to develop leaders for public service. (Click here
