San Jose JACL - Tokutomi Mathematics Contest

All
schools in the Santa Clara County that have students in grades
seven to twelve are invited to participate in this mathematics
contest. This annual mathematics contest is sponsored by the San
Jose Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL),
the California Mathematics Council Student Activity Trust, the
Santa Clara Valley Mathematics Association, the Santa Teresa High
School Mathematics Department, Presentation High School.
The
purpose of the contest is to stimulate interest in mathematics
among students in grades seven to twelve and to encourage them
to raise their mathematical abilities. The late Mr. Kiyoshi Tokutomi
started the formerly named Hokubei Mainichi Mathematics Contest
in 1966. He was the Hokubei Mainichi San Jose Branch Assistant
Manager. His wife, Kiyoko continued with the contest when he passed
away. Mrs. Tokutomi passed away in December, 2002. In honor of
the founders of the contest, the contest has been renamed in their
name, Tokutomi.
This
contest is open to all 7th through 12th graders.
Junior
Division - 7th, 8th & 9th graders
Senior Division - 10th, 11th & 12th graders
There
will be approximately 20 problems to be solved within 50 minutes.
No calculators are allowed.
Prizes
and/or certificates will be awarded to the top 23 winners and
finalists per division (One prize and/or certificate per student).
Recognition only will given to those winners not present.
The
contest results will be emailed to the address that is on the
registration form. If results are not received, then please email
the San Jose JACL.
