SAN
JOSE - The San Jose chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League
(JACL) will conclude another successful year of community service
by sponsoring its second annual Recognition Dinner & Dance on Saturday,
November 16th, 2002 at the San Jose Hyatt Hotel. 2002 marks sixty
years after the forced internment and relocation of more than 120,000
Japanese-Americans during World War II, and SJ JACL is proud to
be commemorating this occasion by honoring local Japanese-American
veterans who served in the 100th Battalion/442nd Regimental Combat
Team and the Military Intelligence Service (MIS) during the war,
at the banquet. SJ JACL believes it is important to thank veterans
for their vital contributions to their country and the Japanese-American
community, which were critical to the development of San Jose's
Japantown.
"In
this commemorative year, the personal sacrifices and valiant achievements
of Japanese-Americans in the United States military have been recognized,
and this gala event celebrates their accomplishments," noted
SJ JACL Board President Kenzo Kimura.
The
event will be emceed by Bay Area Channel 2 KTVU's Robert Handa,
and the keynote address will be delivered by California Assemblyman
George Nakano. Proceeds raised by raffle sales will benefit SJ JACL
educational, cultural, and community service/support activities.
The timeline for the evening's event is as follows:
No Host Cocktails 5:00-6:00pm
Dinner 6:00-7:00pm
